yIKEs!

We survived Hurricane Ike and better yet, we have electricity! We are so fortunate because 93% of 2.2 million people are without power. I don't know how we lucked out, but I am so thankful! We're keeping our candles out just in case the electric company inadvertantly shuts our power off while repairing the lines. Henry was oblivious to the storm - he only woke up for his normal feedings. Needless to say, Jody and I hardly slept at all as we were kept up by the howling winds and rain and glued to the radar updates. Plus it was scary to be in bed with our pecan tree twisting and bending every which way right outside the window. Our street flooded slightly, but the water receded quickly. We ventured outside around 8:30 in the morning and it was still pretty windy and raining. We found several roof shingles in the yard and some small branches.
Here's a picture of Jody on University Boulevard.
A huge limb fell off a tree in front of the house at the corner of our street.

This is the back yard of Ryan and Crystal Scott who live down the street from us. The tree crushed their neighbor's garage and took some of their fence with it. The tree was originally in their neighbor's yard.

This house is at Robinhood and Wakeforest. A 92 year old woman lives in the house and we hear she slept through the whole storm!
